THREDDS Data Server (TDS)

There are two ways to find a dataset in TDS.

1. From the LAS info page.
• Click the on the LAS page.
  For example, "NRL NLOM 1/16° Nowcast" on the LAS page:
  
  
• The pop-up windows will show more information about the dataset.
  For example, "NRL NLOM 1/16° Nowcast"
  
• Each row represents the different datasets in TDS.
  For example, "NRL NLOM 1/16° Nowcast" SSH look like this:
  
• Click the info jumping into "NRL NLOM 1/16° Nowcast" SSH dataset page.
• Modify the link from .info to .html
• Jump to OPeNDAP dataset page.
2. From the TDS main page.
   • Traverse the directory structure to find the dataset.
     
   • For example, "NRL NLOM 1/16° Nowcast" are in "APDRC Public-Access Products ->nlomnowcast".
     
     Note: Find the directory(s) -> dataset and make OPeNDAP URL like this:
     http://apdrc.soest.hawaii.edu/thredds/dodsC/[directory(s)]/[dataset]
   • For example, click "nlomnowcast" to find different category variables in the dataset.
     
   • For example, click data_apdrc.soest.hawaii.edu_dods_public_data_NLOM_nlom_ssh.jnl
     to show the "NRL NLOM 1/16° Nowcast" SSH general page in TDS.
     
   • Click the OPeNDAP link:
     http://apdrc.soest.hawaii.edu/thredds/dodsC/las/nlomnowcast/data_apdrc.soest.hawaii.edu_dods_public_data_NLOM_nlom_ssh.jnl
     
   • Jump to OPeNDAP dataset page.

OPeNDAP dataset page

• The dataset page describes the dataset in TDS format. The user can get ASCII or binary subsets directly from the data access form.
  For example, "NRL NLOM 1/16° Nowcast" SSH info page look like this:
  
  Note: All datasets in TDS are also in LAS.
• The OPeNDAP/DODS Data URL is near the top of the "info" page and looks like this:
  • OPeNDAP URL:
    http://apdrc.soest.hawaii.edu/thredds/dodsC/[directory(s)]/[dataset]
  • Authenticated OPeNDAP URL:
    http://apdrc.soest.hawaii.edu/thredds/dodsC/[authenticated_directory(s)]/[dataset]
    Note: User-friendly analysis and visualization programs will have pop-up to input username and password.
  • Authenticated OPeNDAP URL with username and password:
    http://username:password@apdrc.soest.hawaii.edu/thredds/dodsC/[authenticated_directory(s)]/[dataset]
    Note: Advanced analysis and visualization packages require username and password to be included in the URL.
• For example, NLOM SSH OPeNDAP URL is:
  http://apdrc.soest.hawaii.edu/thredds/dodsC/las/nlomnowcast/data_apdrc.soest.hawaii.edu_dods_public_data_NLOM_nlom_ssh.jnl
  
• After determining the OPeNDAP URL, users can access data by referring to their favorite client tool's tutorial.
